7 Reasons to be Excited About Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Hold on to your wands and Horcruxes, folks, because Harry Potter’s adventures continues in another mind boggling, magic-imbued story. Yes, you read it right. A new Harry Potter book is coming our way, and this one will be unique indeed.
Stick with us and we will show you a couple of good reasons why the next Harry Potter book is going to be absolutely epic, apart from the obvious reasons that Harry Potter’s tale features in it.
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child
1. The Boy Who Lived Will Star On Stage
The next book in the Harry Potter series is called “The Cursed Child” and it is actually both a West End play and book. “The Cursed Child” was written by Jack Thorne, an English playwright, inspired by the story written by J.K Rowling.
The play is scheduled for theater preview on the 7th of June 2016, in London at the Palace Theater. After releasing the general synopsis, Jack Thorne, announced even the cast of this Harry Potter-inspired play.
According to Thorne, Jamie Parker will play the role of Harry Potter; Paul Thornley will take up Ron Weasley’s role while Noma Dumezweni will play the role of the witty and charming Hermione Granger.
2. The Plot Is Absolutely Delicious
Did you think that only movies have teaser trailers? Check out the play’s synopsis released by Thorne and his team on the 23rd of October.
According to the summary, the new Harry Potter title will pick up the plot where the last Potter movie left off, more specifically after the second part of the Deadly Hallows. Our own Harry Potter, who we grew up with, is now an adult, earning his keep by working for the Ministry of Magic.
Of course, one would say that this state of events is predictable taking into account the fact that Mister Potter actually managed to vanquish the evil Lord Voldemort, thus becoming a hero for the world of wizardry.
But Thorne’s play takes it to the next level. Harry Potter’s battle with the dark lord is just a distant memory, a ghost of the past. “The Cursed Child” presents the figure of an overworked Harry Potter, who toils to provide for his family.
And yes, Harry Potter, the adult, is happily married and has no less than three children, who will soon have to go to school. As we come to understand, the “happy wizard family” is just a façade, because the evil lord’s legacy didn’t perish after Potter destroyed Voldemort’s last Horcrux.
Albus Severus Potter, Harry’s youngest son, will soon have to make the same choices his father made while trying to escape his legacy.
3. “The Cursed Child” Has Rowling’s Blessing
Unfortunately for the fans of the series, J.K Rowling was not directly involved in this project, remaining as just a collaborator. However, when asked about how she feels about Thorne’s project, the author said that this play is not to be considered a prequel to the original series.
Actually, what Rowling meant to say is that “The Cursed Child” is not actually part of the original Harry Potter series, but rather a savant spin-off.
In the same comments, Harry Potter’s author stated that she feels maternal towards Thorne’s initiative of revamping the Harry Potter story. Although the story was not quite penned down entirely by Rowling, it is much part of the Harry Potter cannon as any of her writings.
With Rowling’s blessing and seal of approval, we can be sure that the upcoming book and play will be a hit.
4. Print And E-Books Will Be Released At The Same Time
According to Thorne and his team, both the paper version of the script and the electronic copy will come out the same day. This means that starting with the 31st of July, at midnight, everyone will be able to purchase the book.
5. Finding Out What Rowling’s Characters Have Been Up To
Another great reason to be excited about the upcoming book is because you’ll discover what happened to Rowling’s characters after the Battle of Hogwarts ended. Admit it! You were always asking yourself questions like what happened with Harry and Ginny? What about Ron and Hermione?
Well, this an excellent opportunity to feed that the inner demon called curiosity. What happened to the famous characters?
Thorne’s synopsis provided us with some more clues. As we mentioned before, Harry took up a job at the Ministry of Magic, but not just any menial job. According to the plot, after Potter killed Voldemort, he became an Auror, working a full-time job for the reputed institution.
A quick peek in the Harry Potter lore shows us that an Auror is a wizard that hunts down and apprehends Dark Wizards. But it’s more than that: Aurors are a small team of elite wizards which are trained to do this job. The faint-hearted wizards are excluded from this squad.
On the other hand, Ron, Harry’s best bud, and his brother-in-arms decided that it’s high time to leave behind Hogwarts and dark wizards. Instead, he decided to open up a joke shop somewhere in London.
As for Hermione, the wonder-child of Hogwarts, she ended up running the Department of Magic Law Enforcement. So, basically we have a prankster, a hunter, and a wizard cop.
6. The Story Has A Sense Of Continuity
Many Harry Potter fans felt abandoned when J.K Rowling announced that she will not continue Harry Potter’s story. All the stories revolving around Potter’s battle with the Dark Lord were well received by the public, but, in the end, it was a story for kids that depicted the challenging trials of teenagers, albeit with a magical and evil-murderous-nemesis sort of twist.
The public wanted something compelling, fresh and more mature. It seems that Potter’s eight appearance is going to do just that. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether Harry will say something about the mid-life crisis.
7. The Untold Story
As a little incentive, Thorne along with Rowling announced that “The Cursed Child,” which will have two parts, will also tell the story of what really happened to Harry Potter’s parents. Somewhere along the lines, the past and the present will merge, giving the fans something that will be worth their money and attention.
Stay tuned, because Thorne also promised to shed some light on how Voldemort managed to enter the Potters’ house without being seen or heard.
Author Bio: Mike Jones is a Boston University graduate, with an MS in Mass Communication. He is crazy about books and simply adores the works of Hemingway, Tolkien and Dickens.

The Harry Potter series was meant for Tweens, teens, and adults. Not young children. There’s no reason to suspect this will be any more mature. The original Harry Potter series is mature already.
