Being a parent is everything you said and probably more. It is THE most important and yet scary job. Each of us knows that we are not perfect; yet everything we say, or don’t say, do or don’t do can have far reaching consequences some good some bad in the lives of our children. Those of us who are loving, caring parents truly pray that we not only do right by our children but walk our talk with them.

As one mother to another, I appreicate so much your personal sharing as a parent/mom. It’s very apparent how seriously you take this responsibility. We pray that we do our utmost best and then the rest is in God’s hands.

You have written in your blog in the past that scripture has common sense ways to live your life. So I thought I would share with you something I read several years ago and have wished that this verse had been expounded on for me when you were all younger..

In one of Chuck Swindoll’s books (pastor/teacher) he explained in depth Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Train up – bring into submission, developing a thirst, dedicate, consecrate
child – (broad term) from infancy to young adulthood, the entire time is called the period of being trained up
in – in keeping with, in cooperation with, in accordance to the way he should go NAS “according to his way”
way – idea of characteristic, manner, mode in keeping with his characteristics or bent, in keeping with his individual gift. We are bent by God in different ways: Cain – godless, Abel – believer, twins Jacob – sissy & Esau – manly, hairy, hunter, Solomon – diplomatic, man of peace, brilliant, wise
old – hair on the chin, bearded one, when child reaches maturity, is ready to leave home
How do I discover my child’s bents? Make a study of your child, pay attention to how your child acts, reacts, walks, talks, obeys, and disobeys.
Proverbs 20:11-12 “It is by his deeds that a lad distinguishes himself if his conduct is pure and right. The hearing ear and the seeing eyes, the Lord has made both of them”
Paraphrase of Proverbs 22:6 “Adapt the training of your child so that it is in keeping with his God-Given characteristics and tendencies, when he comes to maturity he will not depart from the training he has received.”

So we press on with our calling as mothers and pray that in the end Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise and call her blessed…”
